On Thursday, January 5, at 2.00 p.m. I will begin teaching a class at Amelia Plantation Chapel on St. Paul’s letter to the Romans. There will be 15 weekly lessons, concluding on April 13. After an exposition of each section of Romans there will be time for discussion questions. Participants should bring their Bible and I will provide a summary outline with the discussion questions. Romans gives us a Christian world view that covers all the major questions of life and eternity. It is a complete description of the gospel, the nature of God, human society, morality, salvation, human depravity, faith, peace with God, conflict between flesh and spirit, the ministry of the Holy Spirit, suffering and glory, the relationship of Jews and Christians, personal relationships, Christian citizenship, loving our neighbors, and cultural differences. “The literature surrounding Romans is so massive as to be unmanageable.” (Stott) Every major Christian theologian and preacher has written on it. My aim is to highlight its basic message and apply it to our contemporary lives so that we may be made wise for salvation, give us hope, encouragement and direction, and equip us to deal with the challenges we face every day.
